Gardien Group is pleased to announce the installation of the Kaima bare circuit board fixture tester to S & P Flex in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada.

Suresh Patel of S & P was quoted as saying, “The addition of the new tester enhances our capability for high volume order processing through Electrical Test.  The new Fixture Tester allows S & P to maintain our tight turnaround deliverables to our customers. High volume orders are not optimum for Flying Probe applications and fixture test provides this link in the chain to maintain delivery even with high volume production. The large format allows us to test full production panels utilizing the machines double density grid configuration.”

Gardien's state-of-the-art KAIMA test system can easily be adapted to test multiple PCB configurations. Its standard double density grid (DD) can utilize standard 3.75” fixtures for high volume throughput for most densities of today’s manufacturing.  The machine can be purchased with tighter densities such as Quad-Density or Octal-Density. These provide the ultimate solution to high-density, high-volume manufacturing.  Adding the optional automated load/unload, pass/fail automation provides “Lights Out” solutions for around the clock operations.

Next week, we’ll be in San Diego. In fact, I fly down tomorrow morning to start preparations, along with most of the I-Connect007 team. The weather forecast says to expect sunny, with the occasional cloud, all week, with daytime temperatures around 70 degrees. That’ll be nice, as I’m sure COVID-related social distancing guidelines will encourage us to socialize outside as much as is feasible.

In this interview, Charlie Capers of Zentech breaks down the changing requirements he’s seeing in test and inspection in the industry, and the growing importance of investing in testing for the future growth and success of your company. According to Capers, "When you collect statistics on defects, you will start to see a trend that says, for example, we’ve got a lot of shorts and opens, meaning that our solder paste process is not tight. If you’re collecting statistics and really studying them, you will see trends in your processes."

Test and Inspection: Far Beyond Opens and Shorts

Gardien Vice President Todd Kolmodin talks about test and inspection market drivers from his perspective as a test service provider. Andy Shaughnessy and Happy Holden go down the “microvia rabbit hole” with Todd, as well as explore how OEM design requirements are driving test and inspection functionality and processes. When board layer counts and feature densities force longer test times, the tradeoffs to profitability for manufacturers become time and accuracy. Minimizing time while maximizing accuracy calls for new methods, which Kolmodin explains.
