March 13, 2008 |Estimated reading time: Less than a minute
Coming down from price hikes in the second half of last year, CCL prices has been going down since the beginning of this year, which is good news to down-stream PCB makers but might hurt up-stream E-glass fiber and CCL makers. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
Thin CCLs' prices went down 5 percent in January while that of thick ones reduced by 10 percent, inducing February revenue declines in CCL companies and even affecting Hannstar Board's gross profit rate in March.
Not only did recent unstable copper costs affect PCB makers enormously, but also the rising gold price is pushing up costs for PCB manufacturers especially IC substrate makers such as Unimicron and Kinsus, as the proportion of gold in total cost for flip chip IC substrate ranges from 10 percent to 15 percent.
