In Phuket, Thailand for the Orbotech Executive Forum, Dr. Hayao Nakahara on 21 November made a presentation about the global PWB industry. Included in his remarks was a discussion of flex PCB production in the world. (See chart.)
Dr. Nakahara of N.T. Information said that, following discussions with Parlex and Innovex--two US flex PCB manufacturers --they considered that US flex PCB production was lower than US$500M in 2002. (Parlex produces 40% of its flex PCB in Asia.) As a consequence, the US flex PCB share would be 12.21% (US$499M) and Asia Pacific's would be 84.76% (US$3,465M).
(Pictured: Dr. Nakahara, on left, in discussion with Mr. T. L. Pang, MFS Technology Managing Director, during the Orbotech Executive Forum closing ceremony.) Dedicated to the flex PCB market, MFS Technology revenues increased by 34% in 2002 to reach Singapore $118.4M (approx. US$67.5M) from S$88.3M in 2001. The company has its headquarters in Singapore and three manufacturing locations in Singapore, PRC and Malaysia, with staff of approximately 800 employees.
