Aismalibar proudly hosted the first annual LED DAY at the Reina Sofia Hotel in Barcelona on February 11, 2016. Over 100 industry leaders shared their expertise at the one day technical workshop.

The meeting focused on dissipating heat from the LED to achieve better performance and maximum life from a finished product through the use of IMS (Insulated Metal Substrate).  Speakers at the event also shared how to achieve greater brightness and durability in products and gave insight into upcoming EMC and LED legislation and regulation changes. In addition to Aismalibar, LED DAY had presentations by SEOUL semicondutor, INVENTEC, OPTICS LITE, AMS, COOLIANCE and CEMDAL.

Eduardo Benmayor, Director General at Aismalíbar, explained that LED DAY was created with the aim of becoming an annual event bringing together LED manufacturers, OEMs and industry experts to share technical insight and explore potential synergies. He also shared that LED DAY has the potential to expand to additional cities across Europe and North America in the future.

AISMALIBAR was one of the first IMS laminate manufacturers in the world and was the first in Europe. Their product IMS Cobritherm is a qualified and recognized Insulated Metal Substrate which gives the best thermal management solutions with high thermal conductivity, low thermal impedance and high dielectric capacity. AISMALIBAR has implement a 100% proof test with 1-3KV (High Pot Test) to all IMS laminates coming out of their plant. This is the only way to insure the dialectical strength is perfect and that production problems are detected before PCBs arrive to the end user.

We’re into December, and the new year is around the corner. Things are looking pretty good for our industry. Trade show attendance is back up to pre-COVID levels, and a lot of companies are having banner years. Has the virtual trade show gone the way of the dodo bird? Let’s hope! This week, our must-reads include articles and news items on the decline of R&D, STEM education for kids, why vias do not heat up, the need for more DFT, and the lack of movement toward intelligent data transfer. Designers just love their Gerbers, but Dana Korf has a few ideas about how to make Gerbers obsolete.

Millennium Circuits on The Move

I recently met with Daniel Thau, CEO of Millennium Circuits Limited, at PCB West. This Pennsylvania-based PCB distributor has been on an expansion path lately, so I asked Daniel to introduce us to MCL and explain where the company is headed. As Daniel says, it’s all about impacting the world in a positive way.
