Letter to the Editor re: Government Regulations Create Huge Costs for Manufacturers
October 17, 2011 |Estimated reading time: 1 minute
Dear Editor, The October 5, 2011 article, Government Regulations Create Huge Costs for Manufacturers is absolutely right about government over-regulation. In fact, because government over-regulation negatively impacts the ability of electronics companies to compete in a global marketplace, IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries has taken many actions to address it. IPC and its members are urging Congress to address government over-regulation by conducting more Congressional oversight. Last winter, IPC sent a letter to Rep. Darryl Issa, Chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, regarding burdensome regulations in need of Congressional oversight. IPC’s letter to Chairman Issa highlighted regulations that have or will have a significant impact on electronics manufacturers. During IPC Capitol Hill Day, participants met with their legislators urging their support of a bill that would assist in addressing government over-regulation. As a matter of fact, many IPC members and IPC staff participating in Capitol Hill Day were at the meeting where Doug Starrett (referenced in the article) chastised White House Chief-of-Staff William Daley about government’s onerous and counterproductive bureaucracy. The article discusses the IRS Form 1099 reporting requirement but, this burdensome requirement been repealed. IPC worked with Congress, was part of a broad coalition urging Congress to repeal the 1099 provision and sent letters to Congressional leaders asking them to vote to repeal this burdensome provision. IPC’s efforts saved our members a significant amount of money. IPC will continue to fight on issues impacting your business. But it's IPC members’ voices that tell the story and need to be heard. Companies are encouraged to take action to prevent new costly and burdensome regulations by sending letters to legislators urging them to address government over-regulation. Please visit www.ipc.org/lac-regulation to easily send a letter to your elected officials. Let them know your experiences with government over-regulation. Sincerely, Ron Chamrin Manager, Government Relations IPC - Association Connecting Electronics Industries®
